It's matted using fabric in 1900s reproduction print and hand dyed batik muslinh, sewn on by hand for a Primitive Folk Art look.

Batik is a process of fabric dyeing that uses wax to resist the activity of dye. I dye and wax in many steps. The wax is applied when melted, but cools and can crack, allowing dye to seep into the cracks. Because the wax obscures the fabric, the final appearance of the piece after wax removal is often surprising.
All of my batiks come from a smoke free home with Cat Patrol.
