"Afternoon Cat"
Framed with archival glass 22 1/2"x23"
This cat just woke up from his daily 18 hours of sleep and is ready to begin his nocturnal activities. The batik piece itself is 14"x14 ½", not including the mounting shown here. It is matted on cotton fabric and ticking by hand embroidery

Batik is a process of fabric dyeing that uses wax to resist the activity of dye. I dye and wax in many steps. The wax is applied when melted, but cools and can crack, allowing dye to seep into the cracks. Because the wax obscures the fabric, the final appearance of the piece after wax removal is often surprising.
All of my batiks come from a smoke free home with Cat Patrol.
